Saffi and Misa Diaries

Intro

We are two gorgeous Siamese cats and we know this because She frequently tells us so. Saffi short for Sapphire an aristocratic leggy blue point with sapphire blue eyes you could drown in. Star sign Sagittarius. Misa a cute and sensual lilac point with mesmerising and hypnotic aquamarine blue eyes. Star sign Scorpio. We run the house and rule the garden. We keep an eye on the local feathered population as well as Her. We are often told we landed on our four paws when we came here or should that be eight? To be honest we have very few complaints...

Saffi's Tail

I don’t know what is wrong with Misa today. She has been tucked up asleep in our basket for most of the day which has left me very much on my own. Being a sociable Sagittarius cat I like having cats and people around to play with. I tried sidling up to Her but She was engrossed in work. Or that’s what She told me. Frankly I have my suspicions that it wasn’t all work particularly when I saw boat trips being looked at. We walked around the garden together Her and me to look at the vegetables. I tried to look interested in the runner beans aubergines peppers tomatoes and alpine strawberries. But the flowers which attract the bees look much more interesting to me. It was evening before Misa got up. I think there is something she is not telling us and I intend to stay up tonight and see if I can discover what it is.

Misa's Tail

Today I have taken to my basket to catch up on sleep. Last night I was wide awake and sleep eluded me. Saffi was snoring and She tossed and turned so I suspect She couldn’t sleep either. After a while I made my way downstairs and patrolled my usual haunts. The dog flap and cat flap were both open what joy! So I sauntered off into the garden. The earth smelt pungent from the August dew and the plants and leaves rustled with the sound of tiny creatures of the night going about their business. Being a Scorpio cat and a creature of the night myself I was in my element and stayed out for hours. No-one noticed as I crept back onto the bed and nestled down pretending to have been fast asleep all along.

Her Tale

It’s Friday the 13th and the cats and I are keeping a low profile which isn’t difficult when there have been heavy rain showers for most of the day with the threat of thunder storms to come. Misa doesn’t like thunder and runs and hides in the bedroom. Saffi being of a braver and perchance more curious disposition watches with interest. As the rain beats down ferociously on the sun room roof Saffi gazes up at the hail stones from the safety of her basket. With the garden awash the cats are bored being indoors. It isn’t long till I hear a loud squeal from Misa followed by feline fisticuffs. I spot Saffi with that innocent look on her face which is a dead give away. I check that Misa is ok before diverting their attention with toy mice. Misa is captivated but Saffi gives me a withering look which would seem to be a Siamese speciality. I reach for the ornate gold curtain tassel and Saffi takes a swipe at it. Sophisticated Saffi strikes again!

Saffi's Tail

It rained in the night which has left the garden sparkling with rain drops. The air smells fresh and everything is bright and shiny and new. I lounged on the bench glad to have the sun room to myself. Misa was nowhere to be seen which meant I didn’t have to keep explaining things. She always asks so many questions because she never seems to remember the answers I give her. She came and sat beside me and we stared out into the garden in companionable silence. I watched a bumble bee fly past and settle on the basil magic mountain. I ask you what a silly name but the purple flowers look very pretty. I watched a lady blackbird hop past the open door. She knows I won’t pounce. Being a regular visitor to our garden I watch out for her hopping around the lawn hoping to catch a worm. These worms wriggle around and I am not sure I like them very much. Moths and butterflies are much more fun to chase.

Her Tale

Holiday time has come to an end just when the cats were getting used to spending the whole day en famille in the garden. Jumping on and off the sun lounger became the order of the day. Saffi in particular made good use of its comfy facilities. Whenever I tore myself away to do some gardening Saffi could be seen slinking onto the newly vacated sun lounger and curling up in a happy cat ball. Holiday time may be over for now but happily the warm summer days still stretch out before us. Each day Saffi the Saggie outdoors cat accompanies me over to the runner beans where we pick some for dinner. Next we check on the courgettes with their frilly yellow blooms marvelling at their growth. The aubergines and green peppers are inspected daily for signs of slugs and other ne’er do wells of the garden. The surprise appearance of potatoes from summers past and a stray sun flower plant are welcome discoveries. Misa the indoors cat makes frequent forays outside before returning inside to her home comforts. As soon as dusk falls both cats rush out into the garden on cat business. Much later they come looking for me on the sofa eager to let me know of the fun they have had. They play chase and tag and can be heard galloping like horses up and down the stairs. Misa might stroll over to the TV to see if there is anything worth watching. Eventually they collapse in a heap on the sofa and nestle up against my feet. The Siamese contingent are making the most of the summer!

Misa's Tail

Today has been a very nice day. I spent the morning stretched out on the bench in the sun room doing what cats do best, namely relaxing. I watched the bees collecting nectar ready to turn into honey. The bees are always busy buzzing around in their never ending quest to impress the queen. Why they should want to impress her I have no idea. Saffi will know as she is a very clever cat. Or so she never tires of telling me. I am a smart cat and in my opinion smart is much more useful than clever. I know things before they take place which is a handy thing to know. It’s because I am a Scorpio cat steeped in mystery. When She goes upstairs I nearly always know which room She is going into and I run up ahead so I am in the room ready to greet Her. This means I get an extra cuddle as a reward for being smart. This annoys Saffi and it pleases me. She told us we have been in our house for three years today. We think it is a very nice house and the garden is perfect for mouse hunting and bird spotting. We might be city cats but we like being here and living in the country.

Saffi's Tail

She is looking after my cat friend Chloe and her sister cat Tammy. We know this because She tells us about it. I overheard Her say She will be looking after two other cats tomorrow and on Wednesday. The names of these cats are Duncan and Buddy and their human friend is a vet. Imagine living with a vet. Then there is the big dog She takes out for a walk sometimes. This dog is called Rosie and being a canine she is noisy and not very fast on her paws. We can’t think why She likes this Rosie.

Misa's Tail

We have a new rug. Well actually it has been with us now for several days but to be honest I didn’t take much notice till today. This new rug is Saffi coloured while the old one was my colour. It isn’t so easy to see Saffi up against the new rug. She is looking after the ragdoll cats up on the hill. One of them is called Chloe who came to visit us a few weeks ago. She went to Church with Saffi in a harness. I ask you which self-respecting cat allows itself to be dressed in a harness. I can only think this Chloe must be as silly as Saffi. The other ragdoll cat is called Tammy. She stayed at home and refused to have a cat harness put on her. She must be a clever cat like me.

Her Tale

It was quiet and I hadn’t seen the Siamese contingent for quite some while. I should have known something was up. Misa was poised in the middle of the lawn looking down at something. I looked again and saw it was a fledgling. I scooped her up fast and shut her inside the house. I rushed back for Saffi to find her skittering around after the fledgling as it flew low across the lawn. I rushed to scoop her up and shut her inside with Misa. They were both in disgrace and they knew it. I went back for the fledgling and found it looked very much alive and in one piece with no obvious sign of injury. I brought it a saucer of water. What if it’s hungry I reasoned and went to fetch some bird seed. When I came back I found the little bird which I took to be a baby robin had flown off. I went back inside the house. Saffi and Misa did their best to look contrite. BAD I told them both as I shut up the cat flap. Later on I took the Siamese contingent back into the garden under supervision. Saffi was fine but Misa seemed very interested in the Wendy house surrounds. A parent robin was hopping around so I took the cats back into the sun room to let things take their course.

Her Tale

It was a funny sort of day stuffy and humid with hardly a breath of air. The cats were dozing peacefully in their respective quarters. Misa crouched on the window sill in the living room keeping me company while I worked. Saffi curled up in the ironing basket which she has taken over amongst the foliage in the sun room. I popped out to check Saffi was cool and out of the direct line of the sun. She was fast asleep with her long elegant paws stretched out over the sides of the ironing basket. Saffi is a sophisticated cat and even while asleep she manages to look elegant. A sudden movement startled me. A tiny fledgling had found its way inside the sun room and was fluttering just above her basket. Saffi fast asleep was completely oblivious. But I wasn’t about to take any chances. I picked up the sleeping beauty in her basket and carried her into the living room. It wasn’t long till the tiny fledgling had found it’s way back out into the garden. All’s well that ends well I thought to myself not for the first time!
